The ABI Owners Club was founded in 1970 as the ACE Owners Club and the name was later changed to reflect the wide range of caravans manufactured by ABI. With the collapse of ABI in 1998, and the subsequent formation of ABI (UK), production continued and the Club welcomed owners of these innovative models.

However, the decision of ABI (UK) to cease production of touring caravans in 2001 was as much a shock for members of the Club as for everyone else in the caravanning world. The subsequent sale of the Ace name to Swift effectively brought to an end the ABI product line. The Club members then elected to open membership to touring caravan makes not previously eligible for membership to ensure that the heritage that is the ABI Owners Club would not decline. To reflect this change, the Club name changed to ABI and Friends Caravan Club.
